Saints rally, take down RedStorm

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. - Host Thomas More University spotted the University of Rio Grande an early match lead before roaring from behind to post a 3-1 (18-25, 25-13, 25-22, 25-16) victory, Thursday night, in Mid-South Conference men's volleyball play at the Connor Convocation Center.
The Saints improved to 12-10 overall and 6-4 in the MSC with the win.
Rio Grande dropped to 7-18 overall and 2-7 in conference play with the loss.
The RedStorm got off to a blistering start, hitting .469 (17 kills, 2 errors, 32 swings) in the opening set, but TMU was even better in the second period with 12 kills and two errors in 19 attacks (.526).
Set three was a back-and-forth affair until consecutive kills by Ben Albers snapped a 15-all tie and put the Saints in front to stay.
The fourth period was tied at 6-6 early on until a 4-0 run gave the hosts a lead they would never relinquish.
TMU also had an impressive .458 attack percentage in the third set (13 kills, 2 errors, 24 swings) and finished the match with a .344 mark.
Albers and Cameron Ware finished with 11 and 10 kills, respectively, for the Saints, while Conner Young and Eli Chambers had 21 and 14 assists, respectively.
Jonathan Litzler added 15 digs and Jacob Wehrman had three solo blocks in the win.
Rio Grande was led by junior Caden Donaldson (Jackson, OH) with 23 kills, while sophomore Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) finished with 13 of his own. The RedStorm hit .240 as a team for the match with 53 kills and 23 errors in 125 attacks.
Sophomore Seth Mohr (Canton, OH) had a match-high 48 assists, while fellow sophomore Bobby Meifert (Bolingbrook, IL) had 14 digs.
The RedStorm will close out their regular season schedule at Campbellsville (Ky.) University on Saturday afternoon.
