LEBANON, Tenn. - Host Cumberland University trailed only briefly at the start of set two, but otherwise cruised to a 3-0 win over the University of Rio Grande, Thursday night, in Mid-South Conference men's volleyball action.
The Phoenix captured the match by scores of 25-12, 25-17, 25-15 to improved to 20-15 overall and 10-7 in conference play.
Rio Grande, which was playing its regular season finale, slipped to 2-25 overall and 1-17 in the MSC with the loss.

The RedStorm got off to a 4-2 lead in the second set, but the hosts quickly rallied to regain control and Rio never led again.
Cumberland recorded a .368 attack percentage for the match, tallying 32 kills and 11 errors in 57 swings.
The Phoenix also had 11 service aces compared to just two for Rio Grande.
The RedStorm had 17 kills and 14 errors in 62 attacks as a team for a .048 percentage.
Freshmen Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) and Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH) had five kills each to lead Rio, while freshman Seth Mohr (Canton, OH) totaled 15 assists and freshman Juan Carlos Polanco (Columbus, OH) finished with six digs.
Freshman Cam Griffith added a pair of block assists in the loss for the RedStorm.
Griffin Newby and Christian Lester had five kills each to pace Cumberland, which used 14 different players in the match.
Jordan Pierce finished with 23 assists for the Phoenix, while Ben Douglas had a trio of service aces and Caleb Ginnings had eight digs.
Rio Grande will learn the identity of its opponent and its match time for the MSC Tournament when the bracket is released on Sunday afternoon.
The tourney will be played in Bowling Green, Ky.
