Warriors cruise past RedStorm

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Webber International (Fla.) University led throughout sets one and three and pulled away late in set two to post a 3-0 sweep of the University of Rio Grande, Saturday afternoon, in the final game of Mid-South Conference men's volleyball pod play hosted by Campbellsville University at Powell Gymnasium.
The Warriors, who were receiving votes in the most recent NAIA Top 25 poll, improved to 17-7 overall and 12-4 in conference play with a fourth straight victory.
Rio Grande, which snapped an 11-game losing slide with a win over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) on Friday night, dropped to 2-23 overall and 1-15 in the MSC as a result of the loss.

The RedStorm never led in the first set, yet trailed just 13-11 midway through the period before WIU reeled off seven consecutive winners to take control once and for all.
Rio trailed just 15-14 in set two following a kill by freshman Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH), but the Warriors closed the set on a 10-5 run to take a 2-0 lead.
A 9-0 Webber International scoring spurt produced a 10-1 lead in set three, although the RedStorm countered with seven straight winners to close within 10-8.
Rio drew to within 13-12 a few minutes later, but never managed to tie or get the lead as the Warriors closed out the match.
Daniel Hermida and Chris Ludwig had 12 and 10 kills, respectively, for Webber International, while Victor Siqueira finished with 16 assists.
Freshman Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) had 11 kills and six digs for Rio Grande, while freshman Seth Mohr (Canton, OH) had 21 assists and two service aces.
Rio returns to action on Tuesday night when it travels to Bluefield (Va.) College for another MSC contest.
