Rio men bounce Bears for second win

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - For the University of Rio Grande men's volleyball team, the day began as most have during the RedStorm's inaugural campaign.
It ended, though, with a handful of new records for the fledgling program.
Head coach Nick Rawls' squad rebounded from a straight sets loss to Reinhardt (Ga.) University by rolling to a 3-1 win over Truett-McConnell (Ga.) University in Mid-South Conference pod action hosted by Campbellsville University, Friday, at Powell Gymnasium.
The loss to Reinhardt came by scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-14, while the victory over the Bears was by 25-22, 25-17, 24-26 and 25-17.
The win snapped an 11-match losing slide for Rio (2-22 overall, 1-14 MSC) and also served as the RedStorm's first triumph in conference play.

Rio Grande also set program match-highs for kills (60), attack percentage (.375), assists (56) and service aces (12).
Individual match records that were achieved included 20 kills by freshman Sam Kaylor (Lewis Center, OH) and 51 assists by freshman Seth Mohr (Canton, OH).
Freshman Tyler Miller-Bross (Loveland, OH) added 14 kills, while Kaylor and freshman Juan Carlos Polanco (Columbus, OH) had three service aces each. Polanco also had a match-best 13 digs.
Owen Nobles led Truett-McConnell (0-16, 0-12 MSC) with nine kills, while Wensky Saintilmond had 29 assists and Nathan Hill totaled seven digs.
In the opening match against Reinhardt, the Eagles pulled away late in set one and dominated each of the final two stanzas to win going away.
Reinhardt finished with a .400 swing percentage on 28 kills and just six errors in 55 attacks.
Chase Cross had eight kills to lead the winning effort, while Bruno Dewes was credited with 14 assists and Ricardo Mujica had six digs.
Miller-Bross led Rio with eight kills, while Mohr tallied 22 assists and freshman Jose Perdomo (Venado Tuerto, Argentina) had five digs for the RedStorm, who had 26 kills, 19 errors and 70 attacks (.100 attack pct.).
Rio Grande completes play in the pod on Saturday against Webber International (Fla.) University.
