Tobiska sets new school record at Dillard Twilight

BEREA, Ohio - Milan Tobiska recorded a record-setting performance, while three of his teammates had runner-up outings for the University of Rio Grande men in Saturday's Harrison Dillard Twilight hosted by Baldwin Wallace University at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Throws Facility and George Finnie Stadium.
The meet, which was represented by schools from all three NCAA divisions and the NAIA, was not team scored.
Tobiska, a freshman from Czechia, took first place in the long jump with an effort of 24-3. The mark set a new stadium record, a new meet record and broke Jerry Smith's 30-year-old school record of 24-1.
Tobiska's mark also hit the "B" qualifying standard for the NAIA National Championships, which are scheduled to begin May 20 in Asheville, N.C.
Three others representing the RedStorm tallied runner-up showings in their respective events.
Senior Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH) was second in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:28.19, while junior Kasy Science (Marietta, OH) was the runner-up in the 800-meter run after crossing in 1:52.66 and sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH) took runner-up honors in the shot put with a heave of 15.11m.
Also posting Top 10 outings for head coach Matt Paxton's squad was freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany), who was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.68 and 10th in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 22.55; freshman Jahfa Woodley (Trinadad & Tobago), who was fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.21; senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH), who was seventh in the 400-meter dash after crossing the line in 49.03; sophomore Ryder Crawford (Owensville, OH), who was seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 14:33.94; sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH), who placed eighth in the 1,500-meter run after posting a mark of 3:55.35; and freshman Chase Hinton (Baltimore, OH), who was ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.54.
Rio Grande will close out its season with a contingent of athletes participating in the NAIA National Championships.
