Rio men compete at Otterbein, Centre twilight meets

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's track and field team had one individual first-place outing and one relay team take top honors while competing a two different events on Friday.
Freshman Micah Balsmeyer (Walbridge, OH) finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Otterbein University Outdoor Twilight in Westerville, Ohio after posting a time of 9:37.60.
Meanwhile, at the Centre College Outdoor Twilight in Danville, Ky., the quartet of freshman Jahfa Woodley (Trinadad & Tobago), junior Kasy Science (Marietta, OH), junior Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH) and sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH)took first place in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 7:42.05.
Also at Otterbein, the RedStorm had 10 other Top 10 individual showings and a pair of notable relay finishes to finish sixth among the 23 competing teams.
Head coach Matt Paxton's team tallied 45 points in the meet. Ashland University finished first with 114 points, while Mount Union was second (101 pts.) and Cedarville was third (84 pts.).
Other notable individual outings for Rio at Otterbein included sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH), who was third in the shot put with a heave of 15.48m and seventh in the discus throw with an effort of 44.76m; freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia), who was third in the long jump with a mark of 7.13m; freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany), who was fifth in both the 100-meter dash and 400-meter dash with times of 11.18 and 49.03, respectively; freshman Jaxson Immell (Chillicothe, OH), who was fifth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:51.13; freshman AbDoul Bah (Columbus, OH), who placed sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:03.00; senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH), who was ninth in the 400 after crossing in 49.24; sophomore Daniel Rivas (Valle Del Cauca, Colombia), who was ninth in the javelin throw with a toss of 40.82m; and freshman Levi Wolford (Patriot, OH), who was 10th in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m.
Rio's 4x400 relay team, which was made up of Sileshi, senior Spencer Harris (Gallipolis, OH), freshman Tyler Hill (Reedsville, OH) and freshman Gage Renison (Chillicothe, OH) took runner-up honors with a time of 3:27.96 and the 4x100 team - comprised of Tobiska, Harris, Houston and Sileshi - was fifth after crossing in 41.56.
Also at the Centre College meet, Rio had a trio of Top 10 individual performances.
Beverly was fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.89, Young was sixth in the 800 after crossing in 1:56.38 and Science was seventh in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.71.
The meet at Centre was not team scored.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action May 1-2 in the River States Conference Championship at the Stockmeister Track and Field in Rio Grande.
