RedStorm men sixth at Golden Eagle Invitational

     CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The University of Rio Grande men's track & field team posted a sixth-place finish in Friday's Golden Eagle Invitational, hosted by the University of Charleston, at UC Stadium/Laidley Field.
     The RedStorm totaled 65 points over 19 events in the field of 11 participating schools.
     Host Charleston easily won the team title with 152 points, while Frostburg State (MD) had 86 points to edge Central State (OH) by two points for the runner-up spot.
     Head coach Matt Paxton's squad had 17 Top 10 finishes individually and one relay team which cracked the top five.
     Freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) led the way for the RedStorm, finishing second in the long jump (7.04m) and third in the 100-meter dash (10.81), while sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH) was second in the shot put (15.45m) and sixth in the discus throw (42.74m).
     Junior Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH) also had a pair of Top 10's, placing third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:56.90 and ninth in the 1,500-meter run with a mark of 4:05.56.
     Freshman Gage Renison (Chillicothe, OH) placed second in the 800 with a time of 1:56.61, while freshman Josh Alexander (Fredericktown, OH) did the same in the pole vault after clearing 3.75m.
     Other notable individual showings for Rio individually included freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany), who was sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.95; freshman Jaxson Immell (Chillicothe, OH), who took sixth place in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:59.24; freshman Levi Wolford (Patriot, OH), who placed sixth in the high jump with an effort of 1.85m; sophomore Bryson Smith (Frankfort, OH), who was seventh in the triple jump at 12.47m; freshman Ian Kohls (Bremerhaven, Germany), who was eighth in the 5,000 with a time of 16:10.27; Spencer Harris, who took eighth place in the long jump with a leap of 6.29m; freshman Jacob Faught (Georgetown, OH), who was 10th in the 5,000 with a time of 16:25.44; freshman Marcos Salcedo-Martin (Madrid, Spain), who finished 10th in the discus throw with a toss covering 40.23m; and graduate senior Carter Lipscomb (West Union, WV), who was 10th in the 800-meter run after crossing in 2:00.04.
     Rio's 4x100 relay team – comprised of Smith, sophomore Anthony Portis, Jr. (Huber Heights, OH), freshman Noah White (Crown City, OH) and Wolford – finished in fourth place with a time of 44.50.
     Rio Grande will return to action on April 17 at the Otterbein Twilight.
