Rio Grande Sports Information
RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Kasy Science broke a school record which stood for nearly 50 years, while three of his teammates also posted winning performances in leading the efforts of the University of Rio Grande men's track and field team at a pair of events over the weekend.
The RedStorm sent some athletes to the Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invite hosted by Virginia University Lynchburg in Lynchburg, Va., while a larger contingent participated in the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open host by Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio.
Science, a junior from Marietta, Ohio was in the group who went to Lynchburg and finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:51.40. His time bettered the previous school-best of 1:51.90 set by Rio Athletic Hall of Famer Bernie Tilley set in 1977.
Senior Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH) won the 1,500-meter run Invite division with a time of 14:44.10, while freshman Noah Sileshi (Germany) did the same in the 400-meter dash with a mark of 48.63.
Sileshi also took second place in the 200-meter dash after crossing in 22.37.
Freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) had Rio's other first place outing in Cedarville, winning the long jump with an effort of 7.12m.
Other Top 10 performances in Lynchburg included senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH), who was second in the 400 with a time of 48.72; sophomore Ryder Crawford (Owensville, OH), who was third in the 1,500-meter run Invite division with a time of 14:50.17; freshman Jahfa Woodley (Trinadad & Tobago), who was fifth in the 800 with a time of 1:53.98; and sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH), who was eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:55.07.
The times for Sileshi and Houston in the 400 were the second- and third-fastest in school history and were within a second of the record set by Troy Mason - who has since transferred to NCAA Division I University of Texas - last season.
The meet at Lynchburg was not a team scored event.
In addition to Tobiska, three others cracked the Top 10 in Cedarville.
Freshman Micah Balsmeyer (Walbridge, OH) was sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:51.12, while graduate senior Carter Lipscomb (West Union, WV) was ninth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:12.57 and sophomore Bryson Smith (Frankfort, OH) was 10th in the long jump at 6.15m.
The RedStorm finished 16th in the team competition with 13 points.

Rio Grande will once again split its squad when returning to action next Friday.
