Renison leads Rio men in outdoor opener

     ATHENS, W.Va. - Gage Renison provided the University of Rio Grande men's track & field team with a first place finish as a handful of athletes representing the RedStorm opened the outdoor portion of the 2025-26 schedule at Saturday's Mikey Cox Distance Classic.
     Renison, a freshman from Chillicothe, Ohio, took the top spot in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:38.86.
     Two of Renison's teammates - junior Jayden Dunlap (Gallipolis, OH) and sophomore Wyatt Webb (Gallipolis, OH) - finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 2:51.18 and 2:54.22.
     Other Top 10 performances for Rio on the day included sophomore Anton Meinlschmidt (Weibeyoke, Germany), who placed third in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:00.93; freshman Abdoul Bah (Columbus, OH), who was sixth in the 3,000-meter run after crossing in 9:18.57; freshman Micah Balsmeyer (Walbridge, OH), who took seventh place in the 3,000 with a time of 9:21.65; sophomore David van Kuik (Utrecht, The Netherlands), who was eighth in the 3,000-meter run at 9:26.33; and freshman Jaxson Immell (Chillicothe, OH), who was 10th in the 3,000 with a time of 9:32.76.
     Rio Grande also finished second in the Distance Medley Relay with a time of 10:56.69. The quartet of runners included Bah, Meinlschmidt, freshman Brody King (Sunbury, OH) and Renison.
     The meet was not team scored.
     The RedStorm's full squad opens the Spring schedule next Thursday at the Allen Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
