Rio's Jenkins hits "A" qualifying standard at Lee Last Chance

     CLEVELAND, Tenn. - Tyler Jenkins hit an "A" qualifying standard for the upcoming NAIA National Championships to lead a handful of athletes representing the University of Rio Grande in Saturday's Lee Last Chance 2024 at the Lee University Track Complex.
     Jenkins, a sophomore from Barnesville, Ohio, finished fourth in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:40.73. The mark was a personal-best and the 13th-fastest time in the NAIA this season.
     Jenkins' mark was also the second-fastest time in the event in school history, topped only by Archie Mundy's time of 30:30.10.
     Also competing for Rio Grande at Saturday's meet were sophomore Amarissa Kerns (Lancaster, OH), who finished seventh in the women's 10,000-meter run with a time of 40:34.08; junior Danuel Persinger (Bidwell, OH), who was 10th in the men's 10,000-meter run at 31:49.74; freshman Teddy Jencson (Baltimore, OH), who was 13th in the men's 3,000-meter Steeplechase after crossing in 9:30.70; freshman Kasy Science (Marietta, OH), who placed 26th in the men's 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.25; and freshman Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH) who was 32nd in the 800 after crossing in 1:55.67.
     Science and Beverly's times both were personal-best marks and Science's time was the third-fastest in the event in school history.
     The NAIA National Track and Field Championships are set for May 22-24, at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
