Jenkins to represent Rio at NAIA Championships

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande has one representative in the 71st Annual NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field National Championship, which begins Wednesday at Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.
     Freshman Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH) will be among those participating in the 5,000-meter run. He punched his ticket to the meet by posting a time of 14:45.57 at the Harrison Dillard Twilight hosted by Baldwin-Wallace University on May 12.
     Jenkins' time ranks 28th among the 34 qualifiers in the event. The top eight finishers will earn All-American status.
     The preliminaries in the 5,000 are slated for Thursday at 7:35 p.m., with the finals set for Friday at 4:55 p.m.
     Two other athletes from Rio Grande qualified for the national meet, have but elected not to participate.
     Freshman Huntyr Butler (Heath, OH) hit the "A" qualifying standard in the men's 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.56 at the River States Conference Championships on April 28, while sophomore Cassidy Vogt (North Robinson, OH) met the "B" standard in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.69 at the RSC Championship.
