Jenkins earns win for RedStorm at OU

     ATHENS, Ohio - Tyler Jenkins recorded an impressive first-place finish to highlight the collective efforts of the University of Rio Grande men's track & field team in the Cherry Blossom Invitational hosted by Ohio University, Saturday, at Goldsberry Track.
     Jenkins, a freshman from Barnesville, Ohio won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:27.99.
     Jenkins' victory served as the only win of the day for the RedStorm in the meet, which attracted competitors from a number of NCAA Division I programs and was not team scored.
     Rio had two other top five showings with freshman Huntyr Butler (Heath, OH) taking fourth place in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.10 and the 4x100 relay team - comprised of sophomore Nathaniel Davis (Pitsburg, OH), Butler, junior Travis Hunt (New Paris, OH) and freshman Daunevyn Woodson (Gallipolis, OH) - placing fifth after crossing the finish line in 43.23.
     The RedStorm recorded 10 other Top 10 outings over the course of the day.
     The group included sophomore Skylar Gries (Williamsburg, OH), who was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.93; junior Haden Karshner (Circleville, OH), who finished seventh in the hammer throw at 44.41m; junior Mason Dishong (Reedsville, OH), who was seventh in the javelin throw with a toss of 46.75m; freshman Hunter Blagg (Ironton, OH), who placed seventh in the pole vault after clearing 3.25m; junior Kyle Lightner (Peebles, OH), who took eighth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.18 and was ninth in the javelin throw with a toss of 45.22m; sophomore Andrew Skaggs (Minford, OH), who placed ninth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 16.59; Woodson, who took 10th place in both the 100-meter dash (11.05) and the long jump (6.07m); and sophomore Matt Spetnagel (Chillicothe, OH), who was 10th in the 5,000-meter run after crossing in 16:28.40.
     Rio Grande returns to action next Friday at the Otterbein Twilight in Westerville, Ohio.
     Action is scheduled to get underway at 4 p.m.
