RedStorm men finish 9th at Yellow Jacket Open

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande had four individual Top 10 finishes and had a relay unit turn the same trick en route to a ninth-place finish in Saturday's 2023 Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open at Cedarville University.
The RedStorm tallied 15 points as a team in the 22-team competition.
Junior Kyle Lightner (Peebles, OH) had the best of Rio's individual showings, placing fifth in the javelin throw with a toss of 141-06.
The RedStorm's other individual outings of note came from freshman Casey Doerr (Wheelersburg, OH), who was sixth in the high jump with an effort of 5-07.00; sophomore Marshall Jackson (Bellefontaine, OH), who was sixth in the shot put with a heave of 46-06.00; and junior Travis Hunt (New Paris, OH), who was seventh in the long jump with a leap of 21-02.00.
Also finishing seventh in a time of 45.50 was Rio's 4x100 relay team, which was comprised of freshman Huntyr Butler (Heath, OH), sophomore Nathaniel Davis (Pitsburg, OH), Doerr and freshman Hunter Blagg (Ironton, OH).
Marian (Ind.) University won the team crown with 156 points, outdistancing host Cedarville (97.5 pts.) and the University of Findlay (91 pts.)
The RedStorm is scheduled to return to action on Saturday at the Tiffelberg Open - a meet hosted by both Tiffin University and Heidelberg University - in Tiffin, Ohio.
