Rio's Jenkins breaks school record in NAIA nationals
Rio Grande Sports Information
BROOKINGS, S.D. - University of Rio Grande freshman Tyler Jenkins didn't hit All-American status, but he did set a new school record during Saturday's action in the men's portion of the NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.
Jenkins, from Barnesville, Ohio, finished 10th in the 5,000-meter run final with a career-best time of 14:53.78.
While he missed a top eight finish that would've resulted in being named an All-American, Jenkins' time bettered the previous school record of 14:54 set by Rio Athletic Hall of Famer Matt Boyles.
His finish was also tops among all freshmen in the field.
Milligan University junior Aaron Jones won the event with a time of 14:26.68.
