Woodson leads RedStorm men at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande had one first place individual finish, while one of its relay teams also took top honors in the men's division of Saturday's Muskie Meet No. 3, hosted by Muskingum University at the Henry D. Bullock Health and Wellness Complex.
Freshman Daunevyn Woodson (Gallipolis, OH) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.02, while the 4x200 relay squad - comprised of sophomore Nathaniel Davis (Pitsburg, OH), freshman Casey Doerr (Wheelersburg, OH), junior Holden Fritz (Canton, OH) and Woodson - took top honors in a time of 1:35.77.
Woodson also placed fifth in the long jump with an effort of 21-02.75.
Rio Grande finished fifth among the 10 competing schools with 50 points.
Ohio Northern University won the team championship with 162.5 points, outdistancing Otterbein University (135 pts.).
Carnegie Mellon finished third with 107 points.
Other scoring performance from Rio athletes included junior Travis Hunt (New Paris, OH), who was second in the triple jump with a leap of 43-09.00 and eighth in the long jump with an effort of 20-10.50; freshman Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH), who was the runner-up in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:47.18; junior Haden Karshner (Circleville, OH), who was fourth in the shot put with a toss covering 45-07.75; and junior Kyle Lightner (Peebles, OH), who placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:03.23.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action next Friday at the Cedarville University Collegiate Invite in Cedarville, Ohio.
Events are set to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
