Trio get wins for RedStorm at Otterbein Invite

     WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande posted a trio of first-place finishes and one runner-up showing in the men's division of Saturday's Otterbein Invitational, hosted by Otterbein University at the Clements Recreation Center.
     The meet, which was not team-scored, included the host Cardinals and Rio Grande, as well as athletes from Baldwin Wallace, Transylvania, Shawnee State, Washington & Jefferson, Ohio Christian and others competing unattached.
     Sophomore Skylar Gries (Williamsburg, OH) took top honors in the pole vault, while junior Haden Karshner (Circleville, OH) and junior Travis Hunt (New Paris, OH) did the same in the shot put and triple jump, respectively.
     Gries cleared 14-06.25 to win his event, while Karshner won with a heave of 45-05.25 and Hunt with a leap of 44-04.75. The efforts by both Gries and Hunt established new school records.
     The RedStorm's runner-up finish also came in the shot put with a toss of 43-05.75 by sophomore Marshall Jackson (Bellefontaine, OH).
     Rio also posted 14 other Top 10 performances during the competition.
     The notable outings included freshman Daunevyn Woodson (Gallipolis, OH), who finished third in the long jump with a leap covering 21-11.75 and sixth in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.20; Karshner, who was third in the weight throw with a toss of 43-05.75; junior Kyle Lightner (Peebles, OH), who was third in the 500-meter run after crossing in 1:11.58; junior Mason Dishong (Reedsville, OH), who placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 39-09.75 and fifth in the weight throw after a toss of 40-07.75; junior Eric Weber (Bidwell, OH), who was fourth in the weight throw with a heave of 42-04.75; sophomore Andrew Skaggs (Minford, OH), who was fifth in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.30 and seventh in the long jump with an effort of 20-01.00; Jackson, who was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 40-00.00; sophomore Ryan Weber (Bidwell, OH), who placed ninth in the weight throw at 36-01.25; junior Holden Fritz (Canton, OH), who was ninth in the 400-meter run with a time of 55.07; and sophomore Triston Malmstrom (McArthur, OH), who was 10th in both the shot put (34-02.25) and weight throw (34-06.25).
     Rio Grande returns to action next Saturday at the Steemer Showcase hosted by Wittenberg University.
     Action is slated to get underway at 11 a.m.
