Five from RedStorm grab All-American honors

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - The University of Rio Grande got All-American finishes from Angel Montes and its 4x800 relay team during Friday's action in the 69th NAIA Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship hosted by the Gainesville Sports Commission at the Alachua County Sports and Events Center at Celebration Pointe.
Montes, a freshman from Mexico, finished fifth and was one of seven competitors to break the previous facility record by crossing in a time of 12:12.60.
The top eight finishers were named All-American.
Senior Mugisha Pomossene (Dayton, OH) took 11th place with a time of 13:24.57.
Rio's 4x800 relay squad - comprised of junior Kasy Science (Marietta, OH), freshman Jahfa Woodley (Trinada and Tobago), junior Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH) and sophomore John Young (Leroy, OH) - earned their All-American distinction by finishing eighth with a time of 7:56.93.
Two other individual outings for the RedStorm failed to produce a top eight finish or an advancement beyond the preliminary round.
Science finished 14th in the 800-meter run prelims with a time of 1:55.27, while freshman Milan Tobiska (Czechia) was 18th in the long jump with a top effort of 6.98m.
Saturday's final day of action will find a trio of Rio Grande representatives vying for a championship.
Sophomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH) is in the shot put, with the preliminaries and, subsequently, the final slated for a 2:30 p.m. start.
Sophomore Ryder Crawford (Owensville, OH) will be part of the 3,000-meter run final at 3:15 p.m., with senior Tyler Jenkins (Barnesville, OH) set to run in the 5,000-meter final at 4:20 p.m.
