Science, Alexander notch wins for Rio men at MU

     HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Kasy Science and Josh Alexander both posted first-place finishes to lead the University of Rio Grande men's indoor track and field team in Saturday's Marshall Alumni Invitational at the Chris Cline Athletic Complex.
     Science, a junior from Marietta, Ohio, took top honors in the 1,000-meter run with a new meet record time of 2:31.58, while Alexander - a freshman from Fredericktown, Ohio - won the pole vault after clearing 13-01.50.
     The two victories were part of 20 Top 10 individual finishes recorded by the RedStorm in the meet. A pair of Rio relay teams also posted top four showings.
     The remainder of Rio's notable performances included senior Trevon Houston (Cleveland, OH), who was the runner-up in the 400-meter run with a time of 49.69; sopomore Keegan McKinney (Baltimore, OH), who was second in the shot put with an effort covering 16.36m; Noah Sileshi (Germany), who placed third in the 300-meter run after crossing in 34.81; junior Ashton Beverly (Chillicothe, OH), who was third in the 1,000 with an effort of 2:33.99; Noah White (Crown City, OH), who placed third in the pole vault with a mark of 9-10.00; junior Rowen Gerlach (New Haven, WV), who was fourth in the shot put at 15.14m and eighth in the weight throw with a toss of 15.24m; Jahfa Woodley (Trinadad and Tobago), who took fourth in the 1,000 with a mark of 2:35.52; freshman Gage Renison (Chillicothe, OH), who placed fifth in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:26.11 and sixth in the 1,000 at 2:43.49; junior Jayden Dunlap (Gallipolis, OH), who was sixth in the 600 after crossing in 1:30.40; Chase Hinton (Baltimore, OH), who took seventh place in the 600 with a time of 1:34.32; Tyler Hill (Reedsville, OH), who was seventh in the 1,000 with a time of 2:46.84; sophomore Anthony Portis, Jr. (Huber Heights, OH), who was eighth in the 400 with a time of 51.73; sophomore Wyatt Webb (Gallipolis, OH), who finished eighth in the 600 with a mark of 1:38.73; senior Spencer Harris (Gallipolis, OH), who finished ninth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.60; freshman Abdoul Bah (Columbus, OH), who was ninth in the 800-meter run at 2:05.786; freshman Micah Balsmeyer (Walbridge, OH), who placed 10th in the 800 with a time of 2:05.788 and 10th in the one-mile run after crossing 4:31.44; and junior Nick Knight (Proctorville, OH), who was 10th in the shot put with a heave of 13.70m.
     The RedStorm's "B" entry in the 4x400 meter relay - comprised of Sileshi, Woodley, Hill and Portis, Jr. - finished second in a time of 3:23.98, while the "A" unit - featuring Houston, Science, Beverly and Harris - was fourth after crossing in 3:28.26.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Friday at the Youngstown State University Invitational.
