Bio
Morrissey assumed the head coaching position at Rio Grande in September of 1989 and has transformed what was a fledgling program into a national powerhouse.
Morrissey has amassed 559 wins during his tenure at Rio Grande and has guided the RedStorm to 23 consecutive NAIA National Tournaments, seven national semifinal appearances (2001, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2015, 2016, 2022), four national title game appearances (2003, 2008, 2015, 2016) and two NAIA National Championships (2003, 2015). Rio has won 20 conference titles and seven NAIA region championships during his tenure.
Morrissey won four American Mideast Conference Coach of Year awards (1998, 2001-03) and was named the NAIA National Coach of the Year in 2001, 2003 and 2015. He was also named Mid-South Conference Coach of the Year on three occasions (2010, 2012, 2013), was the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 2015 and is a three-time Coach of the Year honoree in the River States Conference (2016, 2017, 2018).
Morrissey starred in both soccer and basketball at Tiffin University and is a member of their athletics Hall of Fame. While at Tiffin, he was All-Mid-Ohio Conference in soccer in 1985-88, including winning the MOC Player of the Year award in 1988.
Morrissey was a two-time NAIA All-American (1987-88). He was selected to the Senior Bowl's West Squad in 1989.
Morrissey was also elected to the NAIA Hall of Fame in 2018.
Morrissey, who also serves as Assistant Director of Athletics and Director of Compliance at Rio Grande, graduated from Roger Bacon High School in Cincinnati, OH.
Morrissey resides in Gallipolis, Ohio. He has two daughters, Allison and Samantha, and one son, Brenen.
