Rio, Lancers play to deadlock in RedStorm Classic

     RIO GRANDE, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande made an early goal stand up and played Grace (Ind.) College to a 1-1 tie in the opening round of the RedStorm Classic, Saturday night, at Evan E. Davis Field.
     The deadlock left the 22nd-ranked RedStorm at 1-0-2 for the season.
     Grace also finished the night at 1-0-2.
     Rio Grande took a 1-0 lead just 91 seconds into the contest when freshman Facundo Rossich (Buenos Aires, Argentina) headed in a touch from junior Tommy Munoz Salazar (San Jose, Costa Rica).
     The Lancers recorded the equalizer with 9:19 left before the intermission when Luis Munoz found the back of the net off of a dual assist by Vasco Tavares and Diego Yanes.
     Neither team scored the rest of the way.
     Rio Grande managed four shots on goal over the final 54 minutes, but were turned away each time by Lancer net-minder Pedro Galante.
     The RedStorm enjoyed a 15-10 edge in shots, a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 10-5 cushion in corner kick chances.
     Freshman keeper Samy Hamou (Paris, France) had two saves for Rio Grande.
     Galante stopped five shots for Grace.
     Rio Grande returns to action on Monday when it entertains No. 11 Bethel (Ind.) University in the final day of the Classic.
     Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
