KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Rio Grande senior forward Benjamin Cam Orellana has been named to the 2023 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Soccer All-America team as a Third Team selection.
The national office released the teams on Monday, after last weekend's conclusion of the NAIA National Championship in Wichita, Kan.
The NAIA All-America committee consists of the NAIA-Men's Soccer Coaches Association Executive Committee, the National Championship Games Committee and four men's soccer coaches. Each of the All-America teams is comprised of a goalkeeper, three defenders, three midfielders, three forwards, and one at-large position.
Cam Orellana, a native of Santiago, Chile and the River States Conference Player of the Year, led the team - and the conference - in both assists (20) and points (48), while tying for the team lead and finishing third in the league with 14 goals.
Rio Grande, which was ranked No. 6 in the final regular season NAIA coaches' Top 25 poll, finished 14-2-3 after suffering a 3-1 loss at home to Westcliff (Calif.) in the second round of the national championship tournament.
Stefan Cvetanovic of Oklahoma Wesleyan was selected as the 2023 NAIA Men's Soccer Player of the Year. This season, the senior forward from Belgrade, Serbia scored 39 goals and added four assists for a total of 84 points. Nationally, he is first in goals (39), points (84), shots (119) and penalty kicks (8-8) and second in game winning goals (7).
During his final campaign, Cvetanovic became the NAIA all-time leading scorer with 141 besting the previous mark of 136 set by Hjoter Hjartarsson from former NAIA member Auburn-Montgomery (Ala.) from 2003-06.
Bethel (Ind.) and Missouri Valley were tied for the most honorees with four each followed by Mobile (Ala.), Oklahoma Wesleyan, and William Carey (Miss.) with three.
The 2023 Select Sport America-NAIA Men's Soccer National Coach of the Year will be announced later this spring at the United Soccer Coaches Convention in Anaheim, California.
