RedStorm men rout Point Park

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Diego Martinez scored a pair of goals while Ewan McLauchlan added a goal and two assists to lead the University of Rio Grande in a 6-1 rout of Point Park University, Saturday night, in River States Conference men's soccer action at Highmark Stadium.
The RedStorm improved to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in conference play with their second consecutive win.
Point Park dropped to 6-5 overall and 5-3 inside the RSC.
Rio Grande dominated the match in every facet, outshooting the Pioneers 24-6 overall - including 16-0 in the first half - and 10-3 in shots on goal.
The RedStorm also had a 12-3 edge in corner kick chances.
Martinez, a freshman from Santiago, Chile, scored his first goal off a corner kick by McLauchlan - a senior from Arch, Scotland - with 27:50 left in the first half, while a three-goal barrage in the final 16:48 of the period produced a 4-0 lead at the intermission.
Junior Charlie Chechlacz (Liecestershire, England) scored on a one-timer from just outside the 18-yard box with just under 17 minutes left in the half, sophomore Osvaldo Pereira (Campo Grande, Brazil) found the net off a crossing pass by sophomore Sebastian Borquez (Santiago, Chile) 4-1/2 minutes later and senior Conner Paine (Cornwell, England) scored off a feed inside the box from McLauchlan with 1:25 left before the break.
Point Park got its only goal of the contest just over 13-1/2 minutes into the second stanza when Lorenzo Diaz scored on a breakaway off of a feed by Geert Bijl, but the RedStorm notched the final two goals of the game to set the final score.
McLauchlan scored on the rebound of a missed shot after two saves by PPU goalie Andrew Russell with 17:30 remaining in the game and Martinez tallied his second score when he headed in a cross from sophomore Diego Montenegro (Santiago, Chile) with 10:14 left to play.
Freshman Daniel Moreno Correa (Madrid, Spain) recorded a pair of saves in goal for Rio Grande.
Russell was credited with four saves in the loss for the Pioneers.
Rio Grande returns to action next Saturday when it wraps up regular season play at home against Indiana Tech.
Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
