Rio finishes 20th at CRC 7s

     BOYDS, Md. - The University of Rio Grande wrapped up its run in the Men's Premier division of the NCR Collegiate Rugby Championship National 7s on Saturday, dropping a pair of contests at the Maryland Soccerplex.
     In the semifinal round of the Bowl bracket, the RedStorm dropped a 24-10 decision to Virginia Tech.
     Rio Grande grabbed a 5-0 lead on a try by junior Ethan Manuel (Durban, South Africa) just 1:30 into the contest and moved back in front, 10-7, on a try by sophomore Blake Northup (Columbus, OH) at the 4:10 mark, but the Hokies scored the final 17 points of the match to win going away.
     The RedStorm finished with a 34-12 loss to Walsh University.
     Rio trailed 10-0 at the intermission, but sliced the deficit in half when Manuel picked off an errant pass and ran all the way for a try.
     The Cavaliers scored twice more to push their lead to 22-5 before sophomore Sunny Staffieri (Lostwithel, England) scored on a long run and Northup followed with a conversion kick to make it 22-12, but the RedStorm failed to score again.
     Rio Grande finished 20th among the 32 teams in the Men's Premier division.
