     SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. - Albeit a distance second-place finish, the University of Rio Grande men's golf team finished as the runner-up in the LTU Heritage Hill Collegiate at the Heritage Hill Golf Club.
     The two-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Lawrence Tech (Mich.) University, wrapped up on Saturday.
     Head coach Lauren Lee's team carded a 41-over par score of 905, topping the host school by six shots for runner-up honors.
     Campbellsville University cruised to the title among the nine competing schools, though, finishing at 1-under par 863.
     Campbellsville's Daniel Alonso Drjlevic cruised to medalist honors, posting an 11-under 205 to top teammate Carson Childress by 10 shots.
     Rafael Martinez had Rio's best individual showing by finishing in sixth place at 8-over 224. He had the third-best round of the day on Saturday, shooting a 1-under par 71 - one of only three sub-par rounds for the day among a field of 50-plus participants.
     Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Pablo Gutierrez (Puebla, Mexico), who tied for ninth place at 10-over par 226; senior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who was 11th at 11-over 227; freshman Pedro Torrens (Neuquen, Argentina), who tied for 19th place with a 17-over par 233; and freshman Joel Jepson (Norrtalje, Sweden), who was one of three players tied for 22nd place at 20-over 236.
     Junior Juan Carlo Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain) also played for Rio, but was disqualified due to a scorecard error after carding an 11-over par 155 through the first two rounds.
     Rio Grande returns to action Sunday and Monday with its reserve team taking to the course for the Hocking College Invitational in Lancaster, Ohio.
     The RedStorm varsity squad returns to play on April 13 at the LTU Spring Shootout in Yorktown, Ind.
