Rio men open Spring slate with 6th place finish

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team opened the Spring portion of their 2025-26 schedule by finishing sixth in the Lindsey Wilson University Spring Invite, which wrapped up its two-day run on Saturday at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.
The RedStorm finished with a 54-hole total of 12-over par 864.
Host Lindsey Wilson captured team honors at 31-under par 821, easily outdistancing runner-up Campbellsville University, which carded a 15-under par score of 837.
Taylor University was third in the seven-team event at 14-under 838.
Individually, Lindsey Wilson's Callum Waugh took medalist honors by finishing at 10-under par 203, one shot ahead of his teammate, Toby White.
Rio Grande's top individual showing came from freshman Pablo Gutierrez (Puebla, Mexico), who was part of a seven-way tie for 14th place at an even 213.
Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Pedro Torrens (Neuquen, Argentina), who tied for 26th place at 4-over par 217; senior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who was one of four players tied for 28th place at 5-over 218; junior Juan Carlo Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who tied for 33rd place after carding a 7-over 220; and freshman Rafael Martinez (Bahia Blanca, Argentina), who was 35th with a score of 8-over 221.
Two Rio players also participated as individuals in the 48-player field.
Freshman Floris Everwijn (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) was one of four players tied for 37th place at 10-over par 223 and junior Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV) finished 47th at 22-over 235.
Rio Grande will continue its southern road swing on Monday and Tuesday at the UNOH Invitational in Thomson, Ga.
