Rio's Martinez, RedStorm team win at KCU Invite

OLIVE HILL, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf "A" team entry all posted Top 5 finishes and easily took the team championship of the Kentucky Christian University Fall Invitational, which wrapped up its two-day run on Tuesday at the Hidden Cove Golf Course.
Freshman Rafael Martinez (Bahia Blanca, Argentina) won medalist honors in the 36-hole event, finishing at 4-over par 148, while freshman Pablo Gutierrez (Puebla, Mexico) finished two shots behind in second place.
Junior Juan Carlo Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain) was third at 7-over 151, with senior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain) fourth at 10-over 154 and freshman Pedro Torrens (Neuquen, Argentina) tying for fifth at 15-over par 159.
As a team, Rio Grande finished at 25-over par 601 - nearly 50 shots better than host Kentucky Christian.
The RedStorm also had a "B" and "C" entry in the six-team field. The "B" unit finished third at 83-over par 659, while the "C" team was sixth at 139-over 715.
Rio's top score outside of its "A" team came from sophomore Keltin Robinson (Peebles, OH), who led the "C" squad by finishing in a tie for seventh place at 18-over 162.
The RedStorm's top "B" individual outing came from freshman Enrique Cuevas (Malaga, Spain), who was part of a three-way tie for 10th place at 20-over 164.
Also representing the Rio "B" team was freshman Deo Alvarez (Veracruz, Mexico) , who was 13th at 21-over 165; junior Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV), who tied for 14th at 22-over par 166; freshman Wyatt McCune (Coolville, OH), who was among a trio of players in 16th place at 23-over 167; and freshman Floris Everwijn (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), who was 20th at 27-over 171.
The remainder of the Rio "C" entry included freshman Hayden Reynolds (Vinton, OH), who was 24th at 32-over 176; senior Tanner Lisle (Racine, OH), who was 30th at 43-over 187; and feshman Zarik Black (Seymour, IN), who finished 31st at 46-over par 190.
The event was the last on the Fall schedule for head coach Lauren Lee's program.
