RedStorm finish 5th at Bryan Invite

OOLTEWAH, Tenn. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team posted a fifth place finish in the Bryan College Fall Invitational, which wrapped up Tuesday afternoon at the Ooltewah Club.
The RedStorm, who found themselves in fifth place after all three rounds, finished the 54-hole event at 49-over par 901.
Central Alabama Community College took the top spot among the 11 participating schools at 1-over par 853, easily besting runner-up William Carey (Miss.) by 14 strokes. Milligan (Tenn.) University was a distant third at 38-over par 890.
Zane Aiken of Central Alabama CC took medalist honors by carding a 5-under par 208. He defeated his teammate, Easton Haworth, by four shots.
Senior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain) gave Rio Grande its top individual showing, finishing in eighth place at 5-over par 218.
Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Pedro Torrens (Neuquen, Argentina), who tied for 19th place at 12-over par 225; freshman Pablo Gutierrez (Puebla, Mexico), who tied for 29th place at 18-over 231; junior Juan Carlo Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who was one of four players for 32nd place at 21-over par 234; and freshman Rafael Martinez (Bahia Blanca, Argentina), who tied for 37th place at 24-over 237.
Freshman Enrique Cuevas (Malaga, Spain) competed as an individual for Rio and was one of three players tied for 47th place at 32-over par 245.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Lawrence Tech Fall Invite in Kohler, Wis.
