RedStorm men place 4th at RSC Preview

DANIELS, W.Va. - Two University of Rio Grande golfers finished in the top five and the RedStorm finished fourth as a team following Tuesday's final round of the River States Conference Men's Golf Fall Preview at the Glade Springs Resort.
Freshman Pedro Torrens (Neuquen, Argentina) tied for second place and junior Juan Carlo Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain) tied for fourth as individuals in the 11-team, 64-player event.
Torrens finished at 1-under par 143 for the 36-hole event, while Gil Perez carded a 1-over par 145.
As a team, Rio Grande finished at 20-over par 596.
Host West Virginia University-Tech won the team title at 8-over par 584, while Midway University was a distant second at 15-over 591 and Indiana University East finished one shot in front of the RedStorm at 19-over par 595.
WVU-Tech's Heidar Bjarnson took medalist honors individually after finishing at 4-under par 140. He joined Torrens and IU East's Sam Firebaugh as the only players to finish under par.
Also representing Rio Grande was freshman Pablo Gutierrez (Puebla, Spain) and senior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), both of whom were part of a tie for 24th place at 11-over par 155; and the freshman duo of Rafael Martinez (Bahia Blanca, Argentina) and Floris Everwijn (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), who tied for 29th place at 12-over 156.
The RedStorm is scheduled to return to action October 13-14 at the Bryan College Fall Classic in Ooltewah, Tenn.
