Rio's Gil Perez, Portilla tie for ninth at Heritage Hill

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team posted a sixth-place finish in the LTU Heritage Hill Collegiate, hosted by Lawrence Tech (Mich.) University at the Hertiage Hill Golf Club.
The two-day, 54-hole event wrapped up on Saturday.
The RedStorm finished with a 70-over par total of 934.
The University of the Cumberlands easily won the team title with a 14-over par 878, 20 shots ahead of Campbellsville University. Bethel (Ind.) University was third at 43-over 907.
Campbellsville's Kevin Latchayya took medalist honors individually, carding a 3-under par 213 for the tourney.
Rio Grande's top finishers were Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain) and junior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who tied for ninth place at 10-over par 226. Gil Perez was 1-under par in round two after going 8-over in the first round, while Portilla finished at 1-over par over the final 18 holes.
Also for the RedStorm, senior Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Colombia) was one of seven players tied for 28th place at 21-over 237, with Ryan Ladermilt (Racine, OH) tying for 47th place in the 52-golfer field at 33-over 249 and sophomore Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV) finishing 49th at 36-over 252.
Rio Grande will return to action on March 31 and April 1 at the Cumberlands Spring Classic in London, Ky.
