Rio men finish 8th, 15th in Merb Invitational

     McDERMOTT, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande's two junior varsity entries finished eighth and 15th, respectively, in the Roger Merb Invitational hosted by Shawnee State University, Monday afternoon, at the Elks Country Club.
     The RedStorm "B" team finished at 47-over par 623 for eighth-place in the 16-team field, while the Rio "C" team carded a 93-over 669.
     The University of Pikeville "A" entry took top honors in the 36-hole event at 24-over par 600, while the UPike "B" team was two shots back in second place. Host Shawnee State's "A" entry rounded out the top three at 29-over 605.
     Roberto Peiro of West Virginia University-Tech's "A" team took medalist honors in the 83-player field at even-par 144.
     The top showing for Rio Grande's "B" squad came from sophomore Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV), who was part of a four-way tie for eighth place at 6-over 150.
     Also representing the RedStorm "B" team was freshman Alexander Wirenlind (Stockholm, Sweden), who was part of a four-way tie for 12th at 7-over par 151; freshman Teo Mansson (Orebro, Sweden), who was among six golfers tied for 21st at 10-over 154; senior Eli Adkins (Stout, OH), who was among a trio tying for 64th place at 25-over 169; and senior Zach Adkins (Albany, OH), who finished 70th at 28-over 172.
     Freshmen Ryan Laudermilt (Racine, OH) and Keltin Robinson (Peebles, OH) had the best showings for the Rio "C" unit, finishing as part of a five-way tie for 45th place at 18-over par 162.
     The remainder of the team included freshman Leo Attini (Sundsvall, Sweden), who was among six players tied for 52nd place at 20-over par 164; junior Tanner Lisle (Racine, OH), who tied for 73rd at 37-over 181; and junior Lance Stewart (Racine, OH), who was 76th at 43-over 187.
     Rio Grande returns to action on Monday, Sept. 30, when its varsity team competes in the opening round of the River States Conference Fall Preview at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, W.Va.
