Rio varsity finishes 3rd at LWC, reserve 6th at ALC

     COLUMBIA, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team carded a final round 3-under par 281 to rally for a third place showing in the Lindsey Wilson College Fall Invite at The Pines at Lindsey Wilson.
     The two-day, nine-team, 54-hole tournament wrapped up on Tuesday.
     The RedStorm finished the tourney with a cumulative score of 1-over par 853, three shots behind Truett-McConnell (Ga.) University's "B" entry, which snagged runner-up honors at 2-under par 850.
     Host Lindsey Wilson's "A" team proved exactly that, winning the team title with a staggering 51-under par 801.
     Johan Brednkamp of Lindsey Wilson "A" took medalist honors after finishing at 18-under par 195.
     Rio Grande's top individual mark came from junior Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who was part of a four-way deadlock for fifth place at 5-under par 208. He was 8-under par over his final 36 holes.
     Also representing the RedStorm was sophomore Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who tied for 15th place at 2-over 215; senior Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Columbia) and sophomore Alfonso Baro Rosas (Cancun, Mexico), who were both part of a five-way tie for 20th place at 5-over 218; and freshman Fernando Cirajas (Valladolid, Spain), who was amonng a group of three players tied for 29th at 7-over par 220.
     Rio Grande's reserve team was also in action on Monday and Tuesday and finished sixth in the 11-team Alice Lloyd College Fall Invitational at Stonecrest Golf Club in Prestonsburg, Ky.
     The RedStorm tallied a team score of 52-over par 628. The University of Pikeville (Ky.)'s "A" and "B" teams finished first and second, respectively, at 9-over 585 and 30-over par 606.
     St. Mary-of-the-Woods (Ind.) College was third at 39-over par 615.
     UPike's Lawson Hon won medalist honors by carding a 2-under par 142.
     The top finisher for Rio Grande was freshman Eliseo Martinez (Malaga, Spain), who finished in a tie for 6th place at 5-over par 149.
     Others who were representing the RedStorm were freshman Teo Mansson (Orebro, Sweden), who was among a trio tied for 14th place at 9-over par 153; sophomore Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV), who was part of a five-way deadlock for 28th place at 15-over 159; freshman Leo Attini (Sundsvall, Sweden), who finished tied for 39th at 23-over par 167; and freshman Keltin Robinson (Peebles, OH), who was 47th at 33-over 177.
     Rio Grande's reserve team return to action next Monday and Tuesday at the Ohio Christian Invitational in Circleville, Ohio.
