RedStorm men finish 2nd at Marietta

BEVERLY, Ohio - Nicolas Gonzalez finished in a tie for third place and the University of Rio Grande men's golf team posted a runner-up showing in the Marietta College Pioneer Classic, which closed its two-day run at the Lakeside Golf Club.
Gonzalez - a junior from Medellin, Columbia - carded a 36-hole total of 144, tying Nick Weideling from host Marietta for third place - four shots behind the Capital University duo of Ben Satterthwaite and Keegan Billingham.
Capital claimed the team title with a two-day total of 578, while the RedStorm took second place at 586 and Marietta was third at 593.
Also representing Rio Grande was freshman Alfonso Baro Rosas (Cancun, Mexico), who tied for sixth at 147; sophomore Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who placed eighth at 148; and the duo of freshman Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain) and senior Whit Byrd (Pomeroy, OH), both of whom were part of a six-way tie for ninth at 149.
The RedStorm are scheduled to return to action April 28-30 at the River States Conference Championships in Daniels, W.Va.
