Rio reserves finish 4th, 5th at OCU Invite

WILLIAMSPORT, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande's reserve men's golf teams finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Ohio Christian University Spring Invitational at the Crown Hill Golf Club.
The RedStorm "A" team finished fourth in the five-team field at 108-over par 684, while the Rio "B" team was fifth at 161-over 737.
Shawnee State University's "A" entry won the team title at 74-over par 650, while the SSU "B" team was second at 79-over 655 and host Ohio Christian University was third at 101-over par 677.
Daulton McDonald from the Shawnee "B" team won medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 14-over par 158.
The top individual score from the Rio Grande "A" team came from freshman Yianni Giakoumakis (Vancouver, B.C., Canada), who finished ninth with a 23-over par 167.
The top score from the Rio "B" squad came from sophomore Kameron Maple (Oak Hill, OH), who was 19th at 33-over par 177.
Also representing Rio Grande on the "A" team was freshman Jorge Del Solar (Chochabomba, Bolivia) and freshman Connor Ingels (New Haven, WV), both of whom were part of a three-way tie for 15th at 27-over par 171; sophomore Jacob Smeeks (Belpre, OH), who was 20th at 35-over 179; and freshman Lis Mendez (La Coruna, Spain), who failed to finish the final round after carding an 86 in round one.
The Rio "B" team also included sophomore Tanner Lisle (Racine, OH), who placed 21st at 37-over 181; senior Zachery Adkins (Albany, OH), who was 22nd at 42-over par 186; sophomore Lance Stewart (Racine, OH), who placed 23rd at 49-over 193; and junior Eli Adkins (Stout, OH), who was 25th with a 66-over 210.
Rio Grande's reserve teams are scheduled to return to action in the Kentucky Christian Invitational, April 8-9, at Hidden Cove Golf Club in Olive Hill, Ky.
