RedStorm men finish 11th in Spring opener

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team opened their spring schedule by finishing 11th among 14 teams in the Keiser Kup hosted by Keiser University.
The three-day tournament wrapped up on Tuesday afternoon at the Okeeheelee Golf Course.
The RedStorm finished at 52-over par 904 for the tourney after carding a 10-over 294 in Tuesday's final round.
Host Keiser won the tourney at 9-under 843, nipping runner-up Texas Wesleyan by three shots.
Palm Beach Atlantic was third at 8-over 860.
Individually, Keiser University's Isac Wallin took medalist honors in the 79-player field by finishing at 6-under 207.
Rio Grande's top individual performance came from sophomore Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who tied for 31st at 10-over par 223.
Also representing the RedStorm was freshman Alfonso Baro Rosas (Cancun, Mexico), who tied for 42nd place at 13-over 226; senior Whit Byrd (Pomeroy, OH), who tied for 49th place at 14-over 227; junior Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Columbia), who finished 58th at 17-over 230; and freshman Juan Carlos Gil Perez (Malaga, Spain), who was 69th at 25-over 238.
Rio Grande returns to action March 22-23 at the Lawrence Tech Invitational.
