RedStorm men finish sixth in RSC Championship

FLORENCE, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande carded a final round team total of 26-over par 310 and vaulted a pair of positions to finish sixth in the River States Conference Men's Golf Championship at the Belterra Resort.
The RedStorm, who were seventh in the 10-team field after Sunday's opening round and eighth following Monday's round two, leapfrogged past both Brescia University and West Virginia University-Tech in the final standings after Tuesday's performance.
Rio Grande finished the 54-hole tourney with a team total of 128-over par 980 and was one shot behind St. Mary-of-the-Woods for fifth place.
Midway University won yet another team title, finishing at 66-over par 918. Indiana University Kokomo was second at 94-over 946 and Oakland City University took third place at 103-over par 955.
Individually, Midway's Hayes Mason and Indiana University East's Jake Miller tied for medalist honors at 13-over par 226.
Rio Grande's top showing came from junior Whit Byrd (Pomeroy, OH), who tied for 14th place in the 54-golfer field at 26-over par 239.
The RedStorm were also represented in the tourney by freshman Rodrigo Portilla (Sevilla, Spain), who finished in a tie for 22nd place at 31-over par 244; senior Jacob Calvin (Chillicothe, OH), who tied for 24th place at 32-over 245; freshman Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Columbia), who was part of a three-way deadlock for 33rd place at 39-over 252; and senior Jensen Anderson (Racine, OH), who finished 43rd at 54-over par 267.
