Rigal leads Rio "B" team at Klash in Kentucky

     PERRY PARK, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande golf team posted a sixth-place finish in the men's division of the Klash in Kentucky, which concluded its two-day run on Sunday at the Perry Park Country Club.
     The RedStorm, which used the 36-hole event as junior varsity tourney on its schedule, finished at 79-over par 655.
     Rio's top individual performance came from freshman Matys Rigal (Talence, France), who finished 16th in the 38-player field with an 18-over par total of 162.
     Also representing the RedStorm was senior Ethan Mercer (Jackson, OH), who was part of a four-way tie for 17th place at 19-over par 163; senior Jensen Anderson (Racine, OH), who was among three players tied for 21st place at 20-over 164; freshman Jacob Smeeks (Belpre,OH) , who tied with four others for 28th place at 23-over 167; sophomore Eli Adkins (Stout, OH), who finished 33rd at 27-over 171; and freshman John Tanner Lisle (Racine, OH), who tied for 36th place at 39-over par 183.
     The University of Pikeville won the team competition with a 37-over par 613, edging Kentucky State University by four shots. Lake Superior State was third at 52-over par 628.
     UPike's Joshua Wiese took medalist honors with a 3-over par total of 147.
     Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action Monday with a varsity event - the Deercroft Spring Break Invite hosted by St. Andrews University in Wagram, N.C.
