Rio men closes out fall schedule

     COHUTTA, Ga. - The University of Rio Grande men's golf team wrapped up the fall portion of their 2022-23 schedule with an eighth-place finish in the ALC Eagle Invitational, hosted by Alice Lloyd College, at the Nob North Golf Course.
     The RedStorm finished with a team total of 44-over par 620 in the two-day tournament, which wrapped up on Monday afternoon.
     Cleveland State Community College won the team crown by finishing at 10-over par 586. Roane State Community College and Bryan (Tenn.) College tied for second place at 13-over par 589.
     Individually, Nick Daugherty of Roane State Community College took medalist honors with a 4-under par total of 140.
     Rio's top individual was freshman Rodrigo Portilla (Savilla, Spain), who tied for 21st place at 8-over par 152.
     Also competing for the RedStorm in the 59-player field was freshman Nicolas Gonzalez (Medellin, Columbia), who was part of a five-way tie for 27th place at 10-over 154; junior Whit Byrd (Pomeroy, OH), who tied for 39th place at 15-over par 159; and the duo of freshman Kameron Maple (Oak Hill, OH) and senior Ethan Mercer (Jackson, OH), who comprised two-thirds of a three-way tie for 41st place at 17-over par 161.
