Catanese gives Rio top finish at ISC sectional

SMYRNA, Tenn. Six bowlers from the University of Rio Grande were among those participating in Friday's 2025 USBC Men's Intercollegiate Singles Sectional Qualifier at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
Sophomore Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH) gave the RedStorm its top finish in the field of 174 participants by finishing 32nd with 1,293 pins over the course of six games.
Also representing Rio Grande in the event was freshman Mason Spies (Marion, OH), who was 91st with 1,167 pins; senior Hunter Bolender (Mt. Orab, OH), who was 104th with 1,150 pins; sophomore Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who was 128th after taking down 1,105 pins; sophomore Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who tied for 144th place by toppling 1,063 pins; and freshman Chase McMillen (Lewiston, OH), who was 167th with 920 pins.
Spies had Rio's top individual game, rolling a 245 in round three.
The top overall score came from Webber International (Fla.) University's Edgar Burgos, who finished with 1,536 pins.
The top five finishers advanced to the ISC national championship, which will be staged April 14-19 in Las Vegas.
