Rio men finish 7th at Greater Pittsburgh Classic

GREENSBURG, Pa. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted a seventh place finish in Saturday's Greater Pittsburgh Collegiate Classic at Hillview Lanes.
The RedStorm toppled 4,620 pins over the course of three rounds of team play and 12 baker games.
Shawnee State University won the team crown with 5,214 pins, while the University of Akron (5,093) edged Penn State-Berks (5,071) for the runner-up spot.
Nathan Zook from Kent State University-Trumbull won the individual title with 664 pins over three games for an average of 221.3.
Freshman Mason Spies (Marion, OH) had Rio Grande's top finish in the field of 86 bowlers, taking 27th place with 553 pins in three games for a 184.3 average. He also had the RedStorm's top single game performance with a 203 in round one.
Also rolling for the RedStorm were Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who was 29th with 544 pins in three rounds; senior Hunter Bolender (Mt. Orab, OH), who was 32nd with 536 pins in three games; sophomore Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania,OH), who was 38th with 523 pins in three rounds; and freshman Justin Lowery (Chillicothe, OH), who placed 50th with 480 pins in three games.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Sunday at the Western PA Shootout in Latrobe, Pa.
