Hamm leads Rio men at Lehigh Valley Classic

ALLENTOWN, Pa. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted an 18th place finish in the 21-team Lehigh Valley Collegiate Classic, which concluded its two-day run on Saturday at Jordan Lanes.
The RedStorm knocked down 8,321 pins over five rounds of team play and 20 baker games.
The University of Pikeville won the team title with 9,978 pins, while Lawrence Tech University was the runner-up with 9,797 pins and Marian University was third (9,723).
Marian's Jaysen Spanbauer took medalist honors among the 133 competitors, toppling 1,204 pins over five games for a 240.8 average.
Rio Grande's best showing came from sophomore Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who was 31st with 1,058 pins in five rounds for a 211.6 average.
Also competing for the RedStorm was sophomore Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 49th with 983 pins in five games; sophomore Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who took 61st place with 935 pins over five games, including a team single-game best 244 in round four; freshman Chase McMillen (Lewiston, OH), who finished 80th with 818 pins in five games; and freshman Justin Lowery (Chillicothe, OH), who was 83rd with 803 pins in five games.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action on Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Greater Pittsburgh Classic in Greensburg, Pa.
