RedStorm men compete in NAIA Invitational

JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team was among the clubs which competed at the NAIA Bowling Coaches Association Invitational, which finished its three-day run on Sunday at King Pin Lanes.
The event featured 18 teams in five rounds of team play on Friday and 25 rounds of baket action on Saturday, with the top eight squads advancing to Sunday's match play bracket.
In Friday's team rounds, Rio totaled 4,536 pins for a 16th place showing.
Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) edged out the University of Pikeville for the top spot, knocking down 5,560 pins for a narrow eight-pin victory. Huntington University was third at 5,196.
SCAD's Ethan Evans took top honors individually with 1,169 pins over five games for a 233.8 average.
Rio's top performance in the field of 138 bowlers came from sophomore Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who grabbed 14th place with 1,081 pins over five games for a 216.2 average. He also had the team's single-game high with a 245 in round two.
Also representing the RedStorm was sophomore Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who was 46th with 955 in five games; sophomore Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 76th with 796 pins over five rounds; junior Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH), who had 758 pins over four rounds for 80th place; freshman Jakhai Agnew (Columbus, OH), who was 95th with 649 pins in four rounds; and freshmanm Justin Lowery (Chillicothe, OH), who placed 124th with 297 pins over two games.
On Saturday, the RedStorm took down 4,204 pins in baker play en route to a 17th place finish.
Pikeville won the baker portion of the tourney with 5,201 pins, while SCAD finished second with 5,013 pins and William Penn was third at 4,994 pins.
