Rio men notch 6th place finish at OBC No. 1

     COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted a sixth place finish in Saturday's Ohio Bowling Conference No. 1 Tournament at the Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
     The RedStorm finished with 5,188 pins in the tourney, which consisted of eight baker rounds and four team rounds.
     Ohio State University won the team crown with 5,572 pins, edging Muskingum University (5,720) for the top spot. Robert Morris University was third with 5,485 pins.
     Muskingum's Evan Thro knocked off Wright State University's Isaiah Shannon, 906-905, to take the individual championship.
     Rio Grande's top performance came from freshman Justin Lowery (Chillicothe, OH), who finished in 12th place with 826 pins over four games for a 206.5 average.
     Also representing the RedStorm was sophomore Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who was 16th with 815 pins over four games; junior Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH), who was 34th after toppling 772 pins in four rounds; sophomore Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who finished 39th with 756 pins in four games; and sophomore Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who took down 751 pins over four games for 41st place.
     Woodyard had the team's top single-game performance with a 244 in round three.
     Rio Grande also competed in the junior varsity bracket and finished at the bottom of the 13-team field with 2,773 pins.
     The University of Northwestern Ohio won the JV division with 5,250 pins, while Robert Morris (4,985) and Wright State (4,931) rounded out the top three.
     Rio's top individual outing was by freshman Chase McMullen (Lewiston, OH), who was 98th overall with 561 pins over four rounds for a 140.3 average. He also had the team's high game of 159 in round one.
     Others who rolled for the RedStorm were freshman Sailor Cope (Chillicothe, OH), who was 115th with 516 pins in four games; freshman Jakhai Agnew (Columbus, OH), who placed 123rd with 490 pins in four games; and freshman Brian Laughman (Piqua, OH), who was 129th after knocking down 471 pins in four rounds.
     Rio Grande returns to action Saturday and Sunday at the Columbia Western Shootout in Indianapolis, Ind.
