Rio men take 13th place at ITC Sectional

ALLEN PARK, Mich. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team wrapped up its 2023-24 season by finishing in 13th place at the Intercollegiate Singles/Team Championship Sectional Tournament at Thunderbowl Lanes.
The top five individuals from singles play on Friday and the top four teams from 64 rounds of baker play over Saturday and Sunday advanced to national tournament play, which is scheduled for April 17-20 at Kingpin Lanes in Jeffersontown, Ky.
Rio Grande finished with 12,447 pins for a 13th place showing among the 20 participating schools.
Calumet College of St. Joseph won the event with 13,444 pins, while Muskingum University (13,290), Lawrence Tech (13,087) and the University of Pikeville (12,854) completed the list of qualifying teams.
Muskingum University's Evan Thro took top individual honors with 1,415 pins over six games. The list of qualifiers also included Webber International's Jayvion Colston (1,396), Pikeville's Bryce Oliver (1,391), Johann Gamo of William Patterson University (1,371) and Lawrence Tech's Nicholas Clauson (1,366).
Rio Grande's top individual finish came from freshman Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who finished 12th in the field of 181 competitors with 1,328 pins.
Also representing the RedStorm was senior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), who was 15th with 1,305 pins; sophomore Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), who placed 31st with 1,252 pins; senior Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who was 139th with 1,073 pins; and freshman Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who placed 174th with 935 pins.
Catanese had Rio's top single game by rolling a 278 in round five.
