Rio men take 5th place at OBC Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team wrapped up its regular season schedule with a fifth-place finish in Saturday's Ohio Bowling Conference Championship at Columbus Square Bowling Palace.
The RedStorm toppled 7,213 pins over 35 rounds of baker play to finish fifth among the 16 participating schools.
Rio's team was comprised of senior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), freshman Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), freshman Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), senior Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH) and sophomore Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH).
Robert Morris captured the team championship with 7,495 pins to edge UNOH (7,482) for the top spot. Muskingum University was third at 7,356 pins.
Rio Grande also finished fifth among the eight schools in the junior varsity division.
The RedStorm took down 5,152 pins over 30 rounds of baker play.
The Rio roster included sophomore Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), Berry Jenkins, junior Hunter Bolender (Mt. Orab, OH), freshman Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH) and sophomore Nathaniel Wiles (Cheboygan, MI).
Muskingum University won the JV team crown with 5,961 pins, while UNOH (5,785) and Robert Morris (5,570) rounded out the top three.
Gross and Ragland earned First Team All-Conference honors, while Catanese was the Newcomer of the Year and Lemaster was the RedStorm's rep on the Champions of Character Team.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action in the ITC Sectionals on March 8.
