Rio's Catanese finishes 35th at Hoosier Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team recorded a 40th place finish and Dominic Catanese cracked the Top 35 individually in the prestigious Columbia 300 Hoosier Classic, which concluded Sunday at the Royal Pin Western.
The two-day tourney was comprised of six rounds of team play and 15 baker games.
Rio Grande took down 8,280 pins as a team in the event, which included 78 schools and a whopping 531 individuals.
Mount Mercy University won the team title with 9,451 pins, while Wichita State University was a distant second with 9,352 pins. Lawrence Tech (Mich.) University was third with 9,159 pins.
Marian (Ind.) University's Nolan Blessing won the individual championship after taking down 1,446 pins over six games for a 241.0 average.
Catanese, a freshman from North Royalton, Ohio was Rio's top finisher, taking 35th place with 1,276 pins in six rounds.
Also rolling for the RedStorm was senior Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who placed 116th with 1,181 pins in six rounds; senior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), who was 176th with 1,099 pins in six games; sophomore Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH), who was 255th after toppling 934 pins in five games; junior Hunter Bolender (Mt. Orab, OH), who was 264th with 918 pins in five games; freshman Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 487th with a 205 in his only game; and sophomore Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), who was 488th with a 204 in his lone outing.
Ragland and Woodyard tied for the RedStom's single-game high with a 224. Ragland's superlative came in round three, while Woodyard turned the trick in the opening round of team play.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action on Saturday, Feb. 17, at the Ohio Bowling Conference Championship in Columbus, Ohio.
