Rio men finish 8th in Hammer Saints Classic

NEWPORT, Ky. - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team posted an eighth-place showing in the Hammer Saints Classic hosted by Thomas More University.
The two-day event, which consisted of four rounds of team play and 20 baker games, wrapped up Sunday at Super Bowl Bellewood Lanes.
The RedStorm, who were 10th after Saturday's portion of the tourney, moved up two positions after Sunday's conclusion with 7,299 pins.
Emmanuel University won the team title with 8,040 pins, while Kentucky Wesleyan University was second (7,758 pins) and host Thomas More took third place (7,516 pins).
Emmanuel's Nick Dischinger took individual honors in the field of 90 participants with 875 pins over four rounds.
Rio Grande's top individual finish came from Jalin Ragland, who placed 17th with 793 pins over four rounds for a 198.25 average. His opening game 212 also served as the RedStorm's single-game high.
Also representing Rio Grande was Daniel Gross, who finished 26th with 754 pins over four rounds; Gage Hamm, who was 33rd after taking down 727 pins in four games; Shawn Woodyard, who finished 73rd with 456 pins over three games; Hunter Bolender, who placed 78th with 321 pins over two rounds; Dominic Catanese, who was 84th with 281 pins in two games; and Jacob Lemaster, who finished 86th with a 159 in his only round.
The RedStorm will return to action Feb. 10 and 11 at the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind.
