Gross leads effort of Rio men at OBC No. 3

     COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Rio Grande men's bowling team rolled its way to a 10th place finish in the Ohio Bowling Conference Event No. 3, Saturday afternoon, at the Palace Lanes.
     The RedStorm took down 7,028 pins over five rounds of team play and 16 baker games.
     Muskingum University finished in first place with 7,937 pins, while the University of Northwestern Ohio was runner-up with 7,714 pins. Robert Morris (Pa.) University was third with 7,655 pins.
     UNOH's Devin Flowers was first among the 201 individual participants with 1,152 pins over five games for a 230.4 average.
     Rio Grande's top individual showing was from senior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), who was 24th with 997 pins over five games for an average of 199.4.
     Also rolling for Rio Grande in the varsity division was sophomore Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH) and senior Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who finished 34th and 35th, respectively, with 960 and 959 pins over five games; senior Reece Collins (Columbus, OH), who was 44th after taking down 923 pins in five rounds; sophomore Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), who was 91st with 694 pins in four games; and junior Hunter Bolender (Mount Orab, OH), who had a 276 in his only game.
     Rio Grande placed third in the junior varsity division with 5,369 pins, finishing behind UNOH (5,830) and Ohio State (5,489).
     Freshman Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH) had the top showing among the RedStorm reserves by placing 66th overall with 777 pins over four rounds for a 194.3 average. His outing earned All-Tournament honors in the JV division.
     Also representing Rio in the junior varsity division was freshman Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who placed 79th with 723 pins in four games; freshman Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 86th with 697 pins in four rounds; and the duo of sophomore Nathaniel Wiles (Cheboygan, MI) and freshman Tyler Knight (West Liberty, OH), who finished 88th and 89th, respectively, with 696 pins each.
     Rio Grande returns to action Dec. 18-21 at the Quaker State Classic and Lehigh Valley Classic, both in Allentown, Pa.
