Rio's Ragland rolls perfect game at OBC No. 2

RIO GRANDE, Ohio - Jalin Ragland rolled the second perfect game in program history to lead the efforts of the University of Rio Grande men's bowling team at a pair of tournaments over the weekend.
Ragland, a senior from Columbus, Ohio, tossed his 300 game in the third round of Saturday's team play in the Ohio Bowling Conference No. 2 Tournament in Columbus.
The RedStorm finished eighth among the 18 teams in the varsity division with 7,260 pins in five rounds of team play and 12 baker contests.
The University of Northwestern Ohio took down 8,213 pins to win the team championship, while Robert Morris (Pa.) University was second with 7,725 pins and Ohio State University finished third with 7,690 pins.
Matthew Richards of UNOH took medalist honors with 1,274 pins in five games for an average of 254.8.
Rio's top individual finish came from senior Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH), who took 12th place in the field of 190 participants after toppling 1,094 pins in five rounds for an average of 218.8.
The RedStorm also got Top 20 outings from senior Reece Collins (Columbus, OH), who took 19th place with 1,046 pins in five games and Ragland, who was 20th with 1,037 pins in five games.
Also representing Rio in the varsity division was sophomore Alex Coffelt (Canton, OH), who was 51st with 898 pins over five rounds; sophomore Shawn Woodyard (Jackson, OH), who was 128th with 546 pins over three games; and junior Hunter Bolender (Mount Orab, OH), who was 151st with 370 pins over two rounds.
In the junior varsity bracket, which included four team games and 10 bakers, Rio Grande finished fourth among the 13 participating teams with 5,457 pins.
UNOH won the team title with 5,933 pins. Muskingum University was a distant second with 5,695 pins and Ohio State was third at 5,539 pins.
The top individual score among JV bowlers came from Muskingum's John Jacobs, who was 44th overall with 911 pins in four games.
Rio's best showing in the JV bracket came from freshman Dominic Catanese (North Royalton, OH), who finished 61st overall - and fourth among junior varsity rollers - with 853 pins over four games.
Also representing the RedStorm in the reserve division was freshman Jacob Lemaster (Chillicothe, OH), who was 77th with 771 pins in four games; freshman Tyler Knight (West Liberty, OH), who was 82nd with 747 pins in four games; freshman Gage Hamm (Rushsylvania, OH), who finished 91st with 711 pins in four games; and sophomore Nathaniel Wiles (Cheboygan, MI), who was 109th with 643 pins over four rounds.
On Sunday, the Rio varsity posted a ninth place showing among the 12 teams in the Black division of the Orange and Black Classic at the Beaver-Vu Lanes in Beavercreek, Ohio.
The RedStorm finished with 6,193 pins toppled in the event, which was comprised of five team games and 10 baker contests.
The University of Pikeville claimed the team title with 6,982 pins, while UNOH was second with 6,874 pins and Ohio State finished third at 6,689 pins.
Pikeville's Bryce Oliver won the individual crown with 1,120 pins in five rounds for an average of 224.0.
Collins had Rio's top individual effort, finishing 21st among the 153 participants with 980 pins in five rounds for a 196 average.
Also representing the RedStorm varsity was Gross, who was 51st with 877 pins in five games; Bolender, who took 53rd place with 866 pins in five rounds; Woodyard, who took down 714 pins in four games for 76th place; Coffelt, who was 82nd with 692 pins in four games; and Ragland, who toppled 293 pins in two games for 135th place.
In the junior varsity division, which featured five team games and 10 baker rounds, Rio Grande finished ninth among the 11 teams with 5,639 pins.
Pikeville won the JV team title with 6,812 pins, with UNOH taking runner-up honors with 6,286 pins and Midway finishing third with 6,275 pins.
UPike's Joshua Maslanich led all junior varisty individuals, placing ninth overall with 1,022 pins in five games.
Catanese was again responsible for Rio's best outing with 904 pins in four games for 47th place.
The remainder of the RedStorm's representatives included Hamm, who was 60th with 829 pins in five games; Wiles, who placed 65th with 781 pins in five rounds; Knight, who was 68th with 772 pins in five games; and Lemaster, who finished 72nd with 738 pins in five games.
Rio Grande is scheduled to return to action Nov. 4 and 5 at the Brunswick Southern in Marietta, Ga.
