DAYTON, Ohio - Five University of Rio Grande men's bowlers were among the field of 146 attempting to qualify for the upcoming Intercollegiate Singles Championship on Friday at Poelking South Lanes.
The top four finishers earned an invitation to the championship tournament, which will take place next month in Addison, IL.
Unfortunately, none of the RedStorm's quintet cracked the top four.
Sophomore Daniel Gross (Cincinnati, OH) came painfully close, finishing fifth with 1,232 pins toppled in six games and missing qualification by a single pin.
Junior Nathan Burns (Lynchburg, OH), who became Rio's first qualifier for the championship last season, placed 18th with 1,163 pins.
Also representing Rio Grande were junior Reece Collins (Columbus, OH), who finished 61st with 1,071 pins; graduate senior Zach Morris (Vinton, OH), who placed 97th with 1,001 pins; and freshman Hunter Bolender (Mt. Orab, OH) , who was 135th with 901 pins.
The RedStorm will close out their season on March 26 at the Ohio Bowling Conference Championship in Columbus.
