Gross leads Rio to 4th place finish

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Daniel Gross rolled a trio of 200+ games and finished fourth individually, leading the University of Rio Grande men's bowling team at the Ohio Bowling Conference's No. 3 Tournament.
Gross, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, rolled games of 216, 214 and 214 for a 644 total and an average of 214.7, good enough for a fourth place finish among the 136 competing individuals, which included both varsity and junior varsity bowlers.

Gross' performance helped the RedStorm finish in a tie for fourth place with Walsh University among the 12 competing teams. Both schools tallied 6,406 pins.
Muskingum University captured the tightly-contested team crown with 6,695 pins, edging the University of Northwestern Ohio and Robert Morris (Pa.) University, both of whom tied for second with 6,680 pins.
Others representing Rio Grande in the varsity competition were senior Chris Somerville (Gallipolis, OH), who finished 25th with 557 pins in three games for a 185.7 average; junior Reece Collins (Columbus, OH), who placed 45th with 525 pins in three games and a 175 average; sophomore Jalin Ragland (Columbus, OH), who was 56th after knocking over 511 pins in three games for an average of 170.3; and junior Nathan Burns (Lynchburg, OH), who took 80th place with 447 pins in three games and a 147 average.
Walsh University's Jordan Norris claimed the individual crown with 669 pins in three games and an average of 223.
Rio Grande also fielded a team in the junior varsity portion of the event and placed eighth among the nine teams with 5,314 pins.
R obert Morris won the JV team crown with 6,429 pins, easily outdistancing the University of Northwestern Ohio (6,145) and Walsh (5,877).
The RedStorm's top individual showing came from sophomore Carson Rogers (Troy, OH), who placed 27th overall with an average of 184 after toppling 552 pins in three games.
Others rolling for Rio were sophomore Victor Jackson (Pickerington, OH), who was 70th with 481 pins in three games and an average of 160.3; junior Jacob Ramsey (Norton, OH), who was 82nd with 440 pins and a 146.7 average; freshman William Ridgeway (Jackson, OH), who took 90th place with 386 pins and a 128.7 average; and junior Andrew Mershon (Patriot, OH), who placed 93rd with 342 pins and a 114 average.
UNOH's Dominic Weight won the individual JV championship with 639 pins and a 213 average.
Rio Grande is slated to return to action next Saturday at the American Heartland Bowling Association's No. 5 Tournament in Columbus.
